Labia Reduction is a surgical procedure which corrects and reshapes to normal size of vaginal labia.
The outer labia (lips) are bulky and fold round from the front to meet at the back. The inner ones are much thinner and meet at the front to form the hood of the clitoris. Sometimes the inner labia (lips) are quite large and bulky, and some women are embarrassed by them because they show a lump in underclothes or swimwear and they can become sore.

RISK AND COMPLICATIONS
- Bleeding: This could happen from the incision line for a day or two.
- Pain: There will be soreness with sharp pain for a couple of days on coughing, lifting or any activity that caused muscles contraction. Painkillers will be prescribed for the pain.
- Urinary retention: Soreness could possibly cause the urinary outflow tube to obstruct and as a result urine retention.
- Sexual intercourse: You can have sexual intercourse only is soreness or has settled, usually it takes about three weeks or four after surgery.
- Infection: Uncommon, but if it occurs and there is a discharge that persists for more than a few days contact your surgeon.
THE SURGERY
The excess tissue of the inner labia are trimmed away than the incision sutured with dissolvable suture.
This surgical procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia with sedation in day surgery.
A small gauze is placed to reduce bleeding and swelling.
AFTER SURGERY
Many patients may experience discomfort due to pain and soreness. This is a very sensitive part of your body so discomfort is natural, but you will be given instruction to keep the area clean and dry to avoid infection.
Sexual intercourse usually can be resumed about three to four weeks after surgery. However, if soreness or discharge has not settled do not resume the sexual activity because it can cause more pain and soreness.
